Crochet Plastic Bags :: I get all artsy-craftsy these days.
I read this tutorial at Homestead Weaver and got all inspired so here we go with my tutorial. It's super easy.
To make the yarn you will need
Clean plastic "tshirt" bags.
Scissors
A flat place to work
A ruler is optional, I measure with my finger, my pointer finger down to the second knuckle is about and inch and a half.
Flatten out the bag and fold it like an accordion, about 5 folds, keep it straight.
Cut the bag into approx 1.5 -2" pieces.
Throw away the top and bottom pieces. You will get approx 6 pieces from each bag.
Unfold the loops you have made and link them together in a chain. This is your yarn.
You are now free to knit, crochet, weave, wrap or otherwise manipulate your yarn into goodies.
To make this earring holder I crocheted a rectangle about 60 stitches wide and 30 stitches long. I single stitched the ends together and stood it up then stuck earrings on it. Easy.

Dinner last night:
Roasted veges including organic purple potatoes, from Nightfire Natural foods, garlic, onion and carrots, pasta with homemade marinara that I whipped up in the Vitamix and then simmered for a minute or two and a massaged collard salad with sliced onion. mmmmm.

Awesome! I've seen these before, but I've never quite understood how to "knit" them. Your instructions are very easy to follow.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem is that now that I use cloth bags, I don't have any plastic ones anymore :)
I sense some irony in there!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment. I found that the tutorials I saw were kinda confusing and tried to make it more simple. Good on you using cloth bags! I have cloth bags, too but the plastic ones always sneak in somehow! ;)
