Some of the things I've been doing

It's been busy. We moved, for one thing. It went pretty quick and smooth. The man and I worked together pretty well and we got the whole house moved without a hitch. This is a smaller place so we had to do some creative storage. We've been sending a lot of stuff to GW and it's funny seeing my old clothes hanging on the racks at the local store.

We went to San Diego to visit The boy's great grandmother. She's 87 and she used to be a real glamor girl back in the day. We saw lots of photographs and I ate lots of raw spinach in the dining room :)

Halloween came and went. We trick-r-treated and went to a "haunted corn maze" The boy was a Clone trooper, the man was a skeleton, I was a witch, which means I wore my regular clothes with more jewelry and eyeliner.

Mil went with us and she was also a witch. She wore a slinky red dress with a garlic necklace and a head dress made of autumn leaves. She was beautiful!

I've been fermenting like crazy! I blended cashews (also almonds) with water and put them in a jar in the dehydrator at 95F for a day or so and they turn sour and taste like cheese! It's amazing.

Cashews come out tasting just like sour cream. Even the man was impressed with the sour creaminess and he usually isn't impressed with ersatz foods like meat and cheese substitutes.

It's Alive!!!!

Here are all the plants that are left from the garden. It's cloudy in this photo but we have great southern exposure and I think I might be able to grow tomatoes this winter. The jalapeno plant is still producing so I brought it in too. Why not?

These are dried olives. I got them fresh from that one rest stop on I-5. It's in Corning, I think. We were on the way to San Diego. There are olive trees all over and I just ganked a branch. I let them dry in the glove box of the car.

These are serano chiles. I tried to cut one up to put in some food and it burned my eyes and nose and mouth just from cutting it. I screamed "this isn't food, it just isn't!" and threw it in the compost. I've been sprayed with pepper spray and it wasn't as irritating as just being NEAR this pepper when it was cut. I was afraid to touch the cat for the rest of the day, I didn't want him to burn his tongue after licking somewhere I touched. I put the remainder of them in the dehydrator and I will grind them up some day and use them in TINY amounts. Maybe.

I learned to crochet beads to make jewelry and made this bracelet of seed beads and a vintage crystal button for the clasp

I learned to make chain maille and made this beautiful necklace of copper and azurite malachite

Here is a view from the front windows. That's the valley below all filled with fog.

This is what it looks like without the fog, it's so beautiful here, I can't believe it.

Ok, that's it for today. I have a kid home from school due to veteran's day and he wants to use the computer now. We don't have wireless yet so there is only one machine. I am being generous because I know that I will have plenty of alone time with the puter when he's in school so there ya go!

Cheers to you all! Thanks for your comments and encouragement. I was not eaten by a mountain lion as was reported on Craigslist, hehe! :D

  1. What kind of dehydrator do you have? And where did you get it? I'm interested in it, but i don't want to spend a ton!

  2. Hi and thanks much for your comment!
I have an LEM 6 tray. I think I spent about $100 on mine including shipping. I got it refurbished on ebay, so it was used but just like new. It's an investment so I didn't mind spending the money and I use it literally every day.

    I hope this helps!

    As in Bush??? *wink*

Wild fermentation girl! How'd you ever come up with the idea for the cheese? Ingenious! (you know I have to try it now...)

What a spectacular view. Lucky you.
