The cornerstone of any plant based diet is green leafy vegetables. Green leafys are the vegetables that provide us with iron and many other essential nutrients. This isn't that kind of website so if you want to know how many vitamins are in kale, go google it..
Nobody like greens. Nobody. Ok, maybe one person in ten loves greens and eats them by the handful with no dressing or anything. No body else likes greens.
However, they are the cornerstone of a plant based diet. You have to get them inside of your body, hell or high water. It is essential or your hair will fall, nails will get weak and your teeth fall out. These are facts. You must eat green leafy vegetables to be healthy.
Here comes your solution.
The amazing thing is that if you take 4 cups of greens, two bananas and the juice of one lemon, put it in the blender with enough water for it to blend up and pour the resulting mixture in a tall glass, you have a smoothie. A smoothie that is sweet and tangy and creamy and good and doesn't taste like greens at all! You can easily down handfuls of greens and feel like you're having a treat! A SMOOTHIE!!!
Not just any smoothie
A green smoothie.
Have at least one smoothie a day with 3-5 cups of greens (like two handfuls of baby spinach or a head of red lettuce or romaine) and two or three pieces of fruit or any kind of raw flavorings you want (one of my favorites is ginger. I like the warm bite it gives the smoothie. Especially good in these cooler Autumn months).
Then just go and eat what you would eat normally.
Try it for a week. Have a green smoothie once a day. Morning is best but any time of day is fine. Then just eat like you normally would.
At the end of the week, I bet you are eating less SAD and feeling more happy.
Small steps can take one on a long journey.
