Eat less.
Let your body heal itself and don't throw your money away on trendy books and expensive equipment. All you ever need to know about nutrition and raw food is free on the internet or next to nothing in a used bookstore. Ask them, they can order anything you want if it's in print. Amazon. com is a great source for cheap, used books.
As in any other "Industry" there are sharks out there who just want to make a buck. Use your head, not your wallet. Before you buy something make sure you are getting the best price and make sure it isn't just recycled information that you could buy in a used bookstore. Read the classics, Francis Moore Lappe, Herbert Sheldon, Marilyn Diamond etc. These people were pioneers and while they weren't 100% correct in all their theories there is still much to be learned. Open your mind and READ these first before buying new, shiny expensive books by people who will just tell you the same thing Francis and Herbert were trying to say so many years ago. Raw is not new; however, it is trendy so be aware and research any product.
You don't need a lot of expensive equipment to get started. Get a good knife, a good cutting board and a decent blender. Be thrifty, be creative and be DIY. Use your imagination and get a used blender. Check craigslist and other online sources to find a cheap one. Paying over a hundred dollars for a blender is insane. I built mine out of a cheap one I bought for new for $30 and one that I bought at a second-hand store for $10. I fit the carafe that didn't leak on the motor housing that was actually powerful, put them together, now I have a great blender for next to nothing and a great story, to boot! :) A food processor and dehydrator can be nice, but aren't necessary to eating a healthy, varied, plant based diet.
It's important to think about what you eat and where it came from. Animals do have feelings and it even if they didn't it's not right to capture, confine torture and kill for your own amusement. There isn't any way to justify it in a world where we can thrive on a plant based diet.
It's good to be a vegetarian, its even better to be vegan.
In our culture, eating an all raw vegan diet seems very extreme.
Raw is an extreme diet that isn't for everyone. It's extreme because you actually have to kick your addictions to cooked food and it is a physical withdrawal with physical symptoms just like kicking any other drug.
It took me many years to get to this point. Don't beat yourself up is the best advice I can give you. Eat what makes you feel good and be HAPPY. Stress is a killer, just like toxic food.
Don't even try to be 100% anything. The more raw foods you eat, the more your body will ask for raw foods. The next thing you know, the junk foods you used to eat won't taste as good, won't give you the feelings of love and comfort that they used to. Instead, they will make you feel gassy and dizzy and nauseous and well, to tell you the truth, dumb.
Eating raw food will never give you the drugged feeling that you get from toxic, processed food and animal product. You will get a profound feeling of lightness and a buzz that makes the caffeine and sugar high seem like a papercut on your tongue.
Fast a couple of days a month and drink some water every day. Listen to your body. There is no wrong way to do it, money will not buy health and many other cliches.
This one cliche is true: Healing comes from within, you can't heal yourself by putting more things inside of you. Stop and listen to your body, it knows what to do and will do it automatically if you just let it.
There are some people who do feel better if they are eating some cooked grains, steamed veges and occasional dairy or eggs but MOST people can thrive on a plant based diet. Happily. While eating a vast variety of foods. And saving money.
Your body is constantly rebuilding itself on the foods that you eat. I want mine to be rebuilt on living foods that came from good, clean earth, not from a dead animal that was ripped from her mother and raised in captivity, chances are by cruel or just uncaring attendants, suffered her whole life and died for no reason other than my sick perverted pleasure.
Nothing you could serve me cooked could taste as good as eating raw food feels.
Eat less live longer.

i will take advice from you, you seem to know about from what you say! the best advice you can give anyone is to go see your doctor! i dont know if i can eat like you do, but just so ya know, i have taken to eat less meat, and more leafy substances, and have been onna ongoing broccoli kick for the past 2 months, and before that, you couldnt get me to TOUCH the stuff let alone eat it!!! keep on talking about how to eat healthy here, its a good dealie you got going!!
I am so glad to hear that Art! If I can inspire one person to grab and apple or a carrot instead of a slice of bread or a bag of chips, then I have achieved more than I ever thought I could.
Cheers!!
