Ah, pomegranates. That's granada in Spanish. mmm. All that blood red juicy anti oxidant goodness and they are in season now!! They are even sort of cheap at the whole foods store. I don't see them on the list but they are going 2 for 99c at the bodega so I am all over them.
They have a tough, leathery skin on the outside. The good part is the red seeds inside. They are juicy and somewhat resemble corn kernels but with an edible seed in the center, like a grape pip, but not bitter at all. They go great sprinkled on a salad, blended in a smoothie or just as a snack, eat em by the handful.
The pomegranate itself seems daunting, but here is the easy way to get at the super nutritious seeds without making a super juicy mess.
Get a big bowl and fill it with clean cold water.

Cut your pom in quarters.

Put the quarters in the water and start springing the seeds from the membrane inside.

The seed will sink and the membrane will float and you can easily skim it away. dump the seeds in a colander to strain and then have your way with them.

Clean as a whistle.
