The "Man in the Maze" is an emblem of the Tohono O'odham Nation of Southern Arizona (formerly Papago Indians). The design depicts a figure exiting a labrynth and is seen on basketry dating back to the 19th century. Labrynth designs are common in petroglyphsm, often resembling those found in ancient Greece.
The symbol represents one's journey through life. It appears to be a maze, but is in actuality a unicursal figure with many twists representing the many choices there are in life. The center is dark and the path is thin in the center, graduating to brighter, wider ways near the outside, symbolizing the journey from darkness into light.
