A two story town house with lots of big windows

I went to MIL and DIL's new house for the first time last week. It's a beautiful two story, townhouse style. Lots of windows and a beautiful view of the lake. I have to admit I was a little jealous of all the light and the open, airy feeling, thinking about the small windowed, split-level ranch-style house I live in.

The people who live next door to us have the same type of house as M and DIL, a two story, townhouse-style with lots of floor to ceiling windows.

Early this morning I took the boy to the bus stop. It was beautiful out and we saw a huge cloud shaped like a dragon. It was pink and awe inspiring and it just kept looking more and more like a dragon. The boy kicked at the frozen snow and tried to sneak out further than I let him, like he does. After I put him on the bus I walked the short walk back to our house. I was just at the start of our apron when I heard a loud thud. It sounded like someone dropped the lid on a trashcan, one of those big plastic numbers that the sanitation dept supplies in residential areas. I thought it was my neighbor but when I looked up it was just in time to see a quail fall to the ground, twitch twice then fall still and silent. He had flown into the large, shiny window in the front of my neighbor's house and now he was dead. I could see a smear on the window where he hit.

I stood there for a minute, hoping he would get up but he didn't.

I suppose a hawk or one of the neighborhood cats will eat him.
