A Fun Riddle

This was sent to me yesterday by a dear friend. It took me all night and a couple of hours this morning to figure it out.

A popular present sent to the west
Where my skin tans golden and brown.
Late to a table some like me the best
For an answer from me to be found.
With cards and stars I’m fain to compete,
Though my imported message ne’er wins.
Crack the riddle, read it, don’t weep;
The answer brings only wry grins.
