I was invited to enter a MURDER CONTEST

Marxfood.com (link below) left me a comment this morning that read:

Your pie sounds and looks delicious! We're having a party food recipe contest and would love to have you enter one of your great recipes! The contest is on our blog: MarxFood.com and the deadline to enter is today at 4 PM!

I was very flattered at first but then I went to the website and realized that they were a bunch of murdering meat eaters!!

So I replied:

Thank you kindly for the invitation but I do not want to be part of your murder contest.

The only reason I would ever participate and try to win is so that $400 worth of my fellow beings is never purchased from your store.

I would never buy, endorse or participate in anything you do and I will encourage everyone I know to boycott your store and website until you stop murdering my friends.

Go Vegan.

  1. Hi Zucchini Breath,
This is Emily from MarxFoods.com. Sorry to offend you, we have many customers who are vegan and/or on raw food diets who like our seaweed, wild mushrooms and wild produce products, but I can understand why our site does not complement your lifestyle and beliefs. Hope you have a great holiday.

  4. I assure you that we are sincere. Like any food retailer, we sell a wide variety of foods, including meats. As someone who has spent many years as a vegetarian, I am personally committed to offering products for all types of eaters from raw to carnivorous diets. I am not vegetarian right now, but I can relate to and respect your reservations about meat consumption.

You’ll see from our site that we have a lot of highly-nutritious vegan products…camelina, spelt, farro, sea veg, wild & cultivated shrooms, spices, etc. And, we are always on the lookout for more.

While we have a dialogue going…and because you are clearly passionate…I’d love to know how we can do better…what specific food products would you like us to offer? Keep in mind that we don’t sell products that are available at the average grocery store…it’s more of the hard-to-find stuff. Are there any products that you have difficulty finding? Or, do you know any great food products that other vegans might enjoy? I am open to any suggestions of products to sell.

And, just curious: If you are totally turned off by retailers like me that sell animal products…do you shop exclusively at farmers markets or do you grow and store your own foods? Pretty cool, if you do.

We’re not perfect. But, we’re constantly trying to do better. Maybe you can help us by offering suggestions of non-meat products?

  6. You are absolutely right. That post was deleted without my permission and has been reposted. Your point of view is 100% valid. It has been reposted here:

In general, we maintain a "living room" policy for comments and the person who deleted your post interpreted that policy a little too liberally. So long as the post is not vulgar or insulting, the post shall remain. I don't agree with your comment, but you have a right to express such on our site.

FYI - a vegan recipe is one of the finalists. You can vote for it...and read what that contestant wrote about our contest: http://veganvisitor.wordpress.com/2008/12/17/vote-for-me-your-favourite-party-food/

  7. A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral.
